Is it time for an adjustment?

October 5th, 2021

Hello October! Football is in full swing, with homecoming weekends happening at high schools and colleges. Haunted houses and pumpkin patches are open. We are in the last quarter of 2021. Before we know it, we will be ringing in 2022. It is my hope for you that you are taking time to care for yourself and avoiding getting lost in the shuffle of life. This month we will be exploring chiropractic medicine and massage and how they work in harmony.

According to the American Chiropractic Association’s website, “Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) care for patients of all ages, with a variety of health conditions. They are especially well known for their expertise in caring for patients with back pain, neck pain and headaches using their highly skilled manipulations or chiropractic adjustments. DCs also care for patients with a wide range of injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system, which includes the muscles, ligaments, and joints.” The risks of chiropractic care are small, making it one of the safest drug-free, noninvasive options of healthcare to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints.

In my experience with chiropractic care, pain relief is just one of the benefits. I have found it is easier for me to move and go through my days when I listen to my body and get adjustments as needed. I have seen a chiropractor since I was in the 7th grade, mainly for pain in my low back, hips, as well as frequent headaches. Some may think that is too early to see a chiropractor, but I couldn’t disagree more! I know several people who have their children adjusted on an as needed basis, to help with a variety of issues, beginning when they are infants. Think of your body like a Jenga tower. If the tower is crooked or off-balance, it is not going to support more blocks being added and is at risk of toppling over. Instead, if the tower is stacked correctly and straight, it will be strong enough to handle additional blocks being layered on top.

You may be asking yourself, “Isn’t chiropractic treatment too aggressive for children?” When it comes to chiropractic care, treatment can be as gentle or as aggressive as needed. In addition to manipulation using hands, treatment can also be given using specific tools designed for joint manipulation. The treatment plan can be tailored to each individual situation. I would encourage you to find a chiropractor who provides patient-centered care, offering a treatment plan customized to your specific needs. This is also called evidence-based care. If you need assistance finding a qualified chiropractor, feel free to contact me and I will do my best to help you.

Later this month, we will continue our exploration into all things chiropractic care and massage therapy, including how the two can work together in your overall health and interviews with industry professionals.
