When it comes to healthcare, don’t skip the screenings!

October 20h, 2022

How is everyone’s week going? Cool mornings turn into warm afternoons and back to cool evenings. The leaves are finally beginning to change colors and fall to the ground. Football has taken over Monday, Thursday, and Friday nights, as well as Saturdays and Sundays. It’s that time of year when my closest seems unorganized because layers are the everyday normal. I want to breakout my crockpot to cook a batch of chili for Frito pies or potato soup. Have I mentioned that I love fall? Fall reminds me that winter is coming, and I need to get prepared for the cold weather, holidays and all the things that come with it. Let’s talk about being prepared for life when it comes to your health.

As I was growing up, my activities revolved around competition, be it with myself or against others. This instilled in me the need to practice and prepare. Stick with me, I promise this ties in with your health and wellness! Practicing self-care includes the preventative screenings for cancer, bone health, and liver health, just to name a few. These screenings are recommended based on age or risk level and will help to know how to prepare you for the rest of your life. I recommend being your own advocate when it comes to your healthcare needs, because you know your body best. You can find a list of current health screenings at the US Department of Health & Human Services website and check with your primary care provider to make sure you are up to date on screenings as well as discussing any concerns you may have.

I want to talk about a preventative step that everyone has access to and that is rest/sleep. Getting enough sleep lowers your risk of significant disease, such as cancer and diabetes. I had not planned on discussing this topic today, but it is relevant to my life right now. I have not been very good at listening to my body and giving it rest when it needs it. Burning the candle at both ends finally caught up to me and I have been dealing with sinus issues for 2 days. I cannot stress enough to listen to your body, or it will force you to listen via illness. There are other factors at play as well, like the drastic weather change, which brings pressure changes and that wreaks havoc on my sinuses as far as headaches go. I am making an effort to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night, which is not always characteristic for my life.

Peace & Calming is an essential oil blend that I have used to help me fall asleep quickly. The aroma instantly relaxes me and helps to sleep through the night. If you are interested in experiencing this blend or any of Young Living’s essential oils, contact me to schedule a time to meet.
